Division Four Freethorpe v South Walsham (Wed 29.04.09)

Freethorpe played hosts to local rivals South Walsham in their last game of the season looking to secure fourth place and hopefully promotion to Division Three. Freethorpe continued their good form of late and looked very organised and difficult to break down. Although changes were made in defence due to the absence of Loomes they all coped superbly. The midfield worked hard to keep Walsham at bay and the strikers were a constant threat on the Walsham goal. The deadlock was eventually broken on the stroke of halftime when Rix struck for Freethorpe from another excellent corner from Mcmartin. The second half was hard fought and Freethorpe added a second goal when substitute Brown flicked on a Mcmartin Corner with Rix making sure from close range. Walsham to their credit were not done and pulled a goal back with five minutes remaining making the final minutes a tense affair. Final score 2-1. Its been another very good season for the club with all players showing amazing commitment and desire to the club. The club is extremely thankful for your efforts and hopefully we have done enough to secure a third successive promotion in our first three years in the Anglian Combination. A terrific achievement. Well done lads.

Easton v Freethorpe

Freethorpe played their final away fixture of the season against a good Easton side. With Freethorpe and Easton battling for fourth place this was never going to be an end of season stroll. Freethorpe made three changes to the starting line up and Easton started the game very positively keeping Freethorpe pinned back in their own half. Easton looked dangerous from set pieces where they could use their height advantage but the Freethorpe defence coped very well. Freethorpe worked themselves into the game and Smith should have opened the scoring when the ball was pulled back into his path, but blazed over the bar from close range. The same player had another chance shortly after but could not finish. However, Smith was to make amends powering home an excellent header at the far post from a cross from Ward. Easton were rocked on their heels and Freethorpe doubled their lead when Burns whipped in a dangerous cross and Lawton headed home superbly. The next goal was crucial in this game and it went in Freethorpes favour when Rix pounced on a mix up between defender and goalkeeper. Freethorpe contained the home team who resorted to shooting from distance to win 3-0. The defence was immense once again keeping their third clean sheet in four games. Last game is at home to local rivals South Walsham.

Wymondham Town Res v Freethorpe

Freethorpe travelled to Wymondham Town following a good midweek performance and 3-0 win against Hindringham. Wymondham Town started brightly and the game always looked as though it would be a tight affair with both teams displaying plenty of desire and commitment. Chances were at a premium with defences on top at both ends. Wymondham looked very comfortable in possession but lacked a real cutting edge. Freethorpe were a little more direct in their approach but it20was a very good move down the right which saw Simon Burns break through the home defence and rifle home the opening goal for the visitors. The second half was equally hardfought with Freethorpe remaining resolute. However, Wymondham got on level terms following a mix up between Burns and Pentney. Freethorpe were then hit with injuries to three key players. Firstly Read was withdrawn closely followed by Burns and Barber. Barber typified the spirit and effort of the team after trying to carry on following a nasty looking injury to his shoulder, from which we wish him a speedy recovery. Substitute Danny Lawton was soon involved in the action and scored with an exquisite lob from 20 yards to seal a deserved victory against very good opponents. Firstly apologies for not submitting notes in recent weeks. Problems withmy PC have now been resolved. Freethorpe travelled to champions elect NorthWalsham keen to get something from the game after a few disappointingresults in recent weeks. After feeling unlucky to lose 2-1 to Walsham onlya fortnight ago Freethorpe were eager to give a good account of themselvesand so they did. The defence looked solid throughout playing withdisclipline and organisation. Pentney in the Freethorpe goal did not have asave to make in the whole 90 minutes which was credit to the team andespecially the defence considering the quality of the opposition. TheFreethorpe midfield worked tirelessly on a big pitch and Rix was excellentin attack keeping the back three of Walsham occupied. Smith found himself ina good position in the first half but was unlucky to fire into the sidenetting. Chances were limited but both Garside and Barber had chances toclaim victory. The final score was a well earned and hard fought 0-0 drawwhich was a fair result. Blofield Res v Freethorpe

Freethorpe made the short trip to Postwick to take on local rivals Blofield. Freethorpe got off to a flying start scoring three times in the opening 25 minutes. Rix scored the first when he headed home strongly from an excellent run and cross from Mcmartin. Lawton quickly added a second with another well-taken finish. Burns then added a third finishing off a very good team move in emphatic fashion. Blofield continued to work hard and reduced the arrears shortly after switching their wingers, which temporarily unsettled the Freethorpe defence. Freethorpe regrouped at halftime and put in a hardworking and solid performance to maintain their hold on the game. With the home team gradually taking more risks trying to get back into the game Freethorpe carved out a number of chances with Rix adding Freethorpe’s fourth goal late on. Final score 4-1. An excellent team performance played in a very good spirit by both teams.

Brandon Town Res v Freethorpe FC

Freethorpe made the long trip to Brandon and were rewarded with a convincing victory. On a pitch in very good condition Freethorpe passed the ball well and created problems for the home defence. Lawton opened the scoring from a Burns corner after a flick on from Barber. Freethorpe increased their lead when a Brandon defender turned the ball into his own net following a great cross from Burns. Brandon pulled one back in the first half from the penalty spot. Garside netted to get Freethorpe off to a perfect start in the second half. Then in the space of ten minutes Freethorpe added four more goals, from Burns, Read and a quickfire double from Rix. Final score 7-1. A solid victory, however we must remain concentrated for the whole game and retain our disclipline throughout.

Freethorpe v Wymondham Town Res

Freethorpe played hosts to a good and enthusiastic Wymondham Town Reserve side. In windy conditions both teams tried to get the ball down and play and the first half was quite an even affair. Wymondham took the lead with a long range effort which took a bad bounce just in front of the unlucky Pentney in the Freethorpe goal. Freethorpe created the better of the chances in the remainder of the half with both Read and Rix being denied by excellent saves from the visitors goalkeeper. Freethorpe dominated for much of the second half with the defence looking very strong when called upon. Freethorpe eventually equalised when Garside scored from close range with 10 minutes remaining. Topscorer Rix was on hand soon after to seal a deserved but hard fought 2-1 victory.

Wortwell v Freethorpe

Freethorpe travelled to Wortwell to take on the Division Two side after the game twice having to be called off due to bad weather. Wortwell got off to a great start scoring from a freekick after just two minutes. This unsettled Freethorpe and Wortwell continued to dominate the opening exchanges. Wortwell added a second on 15 minutes from another freekick. Freethorpe gradually composed themselves and played their way into the game and carved out the better chances in the remainder of the half, and could consider themselves very unlucky to be two behind at the break. Freethorpe started the second half very lively and were rewarded with a goal from Rix. Freethorpe continued to play some excellent football and were getting a lot of joy down the right flank with Lawton causing numerous problems to the left fullback. It was no surprise when Freethorpe got on level terms with 15 minutes remaining. The goal coming from a thunderbolt from Rix. Having worked so hard to get back into the game Freethorpe switched off for one vital minute and Wortwell restored their lead straight from the kick-off. Freethorpe continued to drive forward looking for an equaliser but to no avail with Wortwell running out 3-2 winners. A valiant effort indeed against a side two divisions higher. Best of luck to Wortwell in the next round.

Freethorpe v St Andrews Res

Freethorpe were eager to get off to a good start to continue their exciting day, having had World cup hero Stuart Pearce open the new changing facilities at Freethorpe in the morning, in the presence of Sky Sports. The dream day continued when Lawton got the team off to a flyer with two well taken goals inside the first 5 minutes. Freethorpe were really buzzing playing some delightful football and Smith added a third shortly after. Barber broke through the middle and shot across the keeper who palmed the ball into the path of Smith who made no mistake from close range. The visitors then created a couple of their own chances but Freethorpe looked comfortable throughout and looked very resilient in defence. Freethorpe kept up the momentum in the second half adding two further goals, first through Burns who blasted home clinically and then substitue Mcmartin rounded off the scoring and a pefect day. final score 5-0.

Freethorpe v AFC Norwich Res

Freethorpe entertained a strong AFC Norwich Res in their first fixture of 2009. The game was an evenly fought contest with both teams contributing to what turned out to be a close and enjoyable game. The first half was probably edged by the home team who created the slightly better chances with both wide men looking very dangerous down the flanks, well supported by the strikers. However, the AFC Norwich keeper looked assured and dealt with anything that came his way. AFC got off to a flyer straight from the second half kick taking the lead with a good finish after a little good fortune with the set up. Freethorpe took a little time to react but eventually started to play some decent flowing football and got on even terms on the hour mark when Rix latched onto a great cutback from Read who had made an excellent run down the left wing. Shortly after Freethorpe took the lead when Lawton chased down a lost cause in the corner. After winning the ball he turned the defender and played a superb ball into Garside who finished emphatically. Freethorpe looked reasonably solid as AFC threw everything they could at them in the dyeing minutes but the excellent home defence stood firm to win the game 2-1. Another good team performance against a very good AFC side.

Freethorpe v Marlingford

Garside makes instant impact!
Freethorpe had to get a victory against Marlingford to retain any real hopes of chasing the top two for promotion. Freethorpe were cleary bouyed by the long awaited return of Garside following a lengthy injury layoff and took the game to Marlingford right from the start. However, it was the visitors who struck first with a good finish. Freethorpe did not let this deter them and Barber was on hand to equalise with a thundering shot from a Smith corner. Rix then put the home team in front with a stinging shot that was deflected past the keeper. The Freethorpe midfield was dominating the play and Barber added his second with an excellent shot on the run to give the hosts a 3-1 halftime lead. Freethorpe got off to a great start in the second half with strike partners Rix and Read adding a further goal apiece. Marlingford got a goal back late on from the penalty spot to make the final score 5-2. This was Freethorpes best display of the season with every player contributing superbly. Playing against a very good Albion side Freethorpe put on a very good defensive performance to earn a replay in the primary cup. Most of the first 70 minutes were spent in the Freethorpe half though the defence restricted Albion to mainly half chances. At around this time Albion took the lead only for freethope to draw level via a deflected goal. After this the game was a bit more even but despite extra time neither team could get the winner. A special well done to Jack playing only his second game of adult football. Great cup tie hopefully more of the same in the reply.

Freethorpe v Harleston

Freethorpe played hosts to deserved league leaders Harleston and knew that only a top quality performance would be good enough. Unfortunately although Freethorpe showed periods of quality throughout the game, these were not sustained for long enough and were accompanied by some sloppy defending and lack of concentration. Freethorpe can feel the final scoreline of 6-2 in Harleston's favour is a little harsh but Harleston got their rewards for a good display taking their chances throughout the game. However, Freethorpe did have their chances and threatened on a number of occasions to make a real game of it and made Harleston think at times, but were never quite able to sustain the required level. The positive attitude displayed after the early setbacks was pleasing and if we can achieve a higher level of consistency I am sure we will get back to winning ways sooner rather than later. Hard work and effort will set us in good stead.

With a silly amount of players missing Freethorpe started ok for the first 20 minutes but after conceding the first goal five more soon followered to leave us 6-0 down at half time. This meant that the aim in the second half was too avoid a 10-0 scoreline so a few things were changed around and two their credit heads did not go down , nick calmed down! and we only lost the second half 1-0. Hopefully this week some players will remember u sign for a season and your not allowed to get injured , go on hoilday , work or go shopping till its over!

Mattishall Res v Freethorpe

Freethorpe travelled to Mattishall determined to make amends for their recent league defeat. Freethorpe started brightly against a strengthened Mattishall side with Rix and Read leading the line superbly. Freethorpe set the tone early and quickly got about their work. The first half was evenly contested with Freethorpe having the edge on chances compared to their hosts. Freethorpe suffered a setback straight after halftime when the unlucky Pentney let a lame shot through his grasp. Although this seemed to Rock Freethorpe somewhat Pentney more than made amends with some excellent goalkeeping. They eventually played their way back into the game and Lawton had an excellent shot well saved by the home goalkeeper. Barber was then unlucky not to be awarded a penalty when felled in the box. However, Rix, who was back to his best was on hand to get the equaliser for Freethorpe following good work down the right flank by Barber. Freethorpe were now on top and could have snatched victory late on but it was not to be. However, a good competitive game.

This week Freethorpe were rewarded for their 100% effort with a good away point at UEA. In a first half with few chances UEA took the lead after 20 mins but Freethorpe kept working hard and restricted UEA to the odd half chance while creating a couple for themselfs.

The second half remained the same with few chances and as the game went on Freethorpe pushed more and more and played it risky for a while with only two at the back and finaly with 10 minutes too go got the goal their deserved via Ollie. It has to be said that Nick leaving his center back position to push on had nothing what so ever to do with Freethorpe getting their goal.

This week Freethorpe playing at Mousehold put
in a very good performane and did enough to get at least a point from
the game. However as of yet we are still not taking our chances and
given away a needless penalty does not help but if this amount of
effort is put in every week we will win more than we lose. Freethorpes
goal was from a good finish by K Russel. Result Marlborough Arms 3
Freethorpe 1. On the plus side 4 players said to me later in the
evening how good the ref was.

Last week starting against the wind Freethorpe were two nil down at
half time. In the second half loads of chances were created and the
woodwork was hit twice but Freethorpe failed to score hence Freethorpe

Freethorpe v Brandon Town Res

Freethorpe started with the same formation against a valiant Brandon Town Res that had worked so well the previous week, and so it worked well again. Goodson notched after just 2 minutes when Whitefoot swung in a freekick and he flicked the ball inside the far post with his head. Whitefoot himself got on the scoresheet shortly after with Barber quickly adding a third from a Goodson short corner. Barber and Goodson both got on the scoresheet again in the first half with Smith rounding off an excellent first half display to lead 6-0 at the break. The second half saw Brandon show more resistance and Freethorpe struggled to find the same cohesion. However, Read extened Freethorpes lead tapping in after excellent work from Rix. Read scored his second of the game to make the final score 8-0. A good result and positive performance.

Martham v Freethorpe

Freethorpe travelled to Martham to take on their third division opponents in a cup encounter. The game started at a frantic pace with both teams giving everything. The conditions meant the game was rather scrappy at times but exciting nonetheless. Mcmartin was injured after just 10 minutes and was replaced by Goodson. Barber was unlucky not to open the scoring when a thunderbolt of a shot rebounded of the upright from 25 yards. Martham then had chances themselves to take the lead but it was Rix who scored the important first goal for Freethorpe on the stroke of halftime when Goodson played a delightful ball through to Barber who crossed first time for Rix to finish confidently. The score remained 1-0 until 10 minutes left when Barber doubled Freethorpes lead from cross from Read. Rix then rattled the crossbar before scoring his second of the game to give the visitors a convincing 3-0 win. A hard fought game from both teams and an enjoyable game despite the windy conditions.

AFC Norwich Res v Freethorpe FC

Div 4 Anglian Combination

Freethorpe got off to a perfect start against AFC Norwich Res when the very lively Mcmartin played a neat one two with Read before slotting home at the near post. AFC then dominated for a period but found Pentney in excellent form in the Freethorpe goal. Freethorpe weathered the storm before settling down to play some decent football but it was AFC who caught Freethorpe on the break and scored with a well taken goal. Freethorpe responded immediately and restored the lead just minutes later through Lawton who scored from a long throw from Burns. Lawton increased the lead just after halftime and Whitefoot rounded off the scoring with a deflected freekick. Final score 4-1.

In a close game , Freethorpe lost 1-0 to a loddon side who created the better chances on the day. It looks as though having gone up a division Freethorpe can compete with most of the sides in there but most surport their front players more.

Easton v Freethorpe
Norfolk Junior Cup

Freethorpe crashed out of the Norfolk Junior Cup at the hands of a very well organised and competitive Easton side. Freethorpe started the game well and could have taken an early lead but Rix shot over from 12 yards out. Freethorpe mounted the early pressure and it was from a Freethorpe corner that Easton had their first real attack of the game and on the break got in behind the Freethorpe defence and the striker slotted home confidently. This setback rocked Freethorpe somewhat and were hit further when Easton doubled their lead midway through the first half with a well worked goal. Morris was then replaced by Bramford due to injury. Freethorpe came out in the second half and went in search of a goal to get them back in the game. Chances went begging and Easton were defending deeper and deeper. With 20 minutes remaining Freethorpe went down to 10 men when Hurley was injured with all subs already used. However, Freethorpe continued to go forward and Read gave Freethorpe a lifeline with 10 minutes remaining scoring from close range. Rix thought he had equalised with an excellent freekick which was saved superbly by the Easton keeper. Freethorpe threw everything at Easton but an equaliser was just not to be. A good competitive game and all the best to Easton in the next round.

Freethorpe v Newton Flotman

Freethorpe were looking to react positively against visitors Newton Flotman following last weeks disappointing defeat. However, it took them most of the first half to get to grips with the game with Flotman having the better of the first half. Flotman took an early lead which seemed to knock Freethorpes confidence somewhat and certainly for most of the first half they gave the visitors far too much respect and time on the ball. The second half saw Freethorpe close down play a lot more quickly which resulted in them putting Flotman on the backfoot. Freethorpe started to dominate possession which quickly got them on even terms when Smith broke down the left and crossed superbly to the far post for Lawton to head home convincingly. Freethorpe remained on top for most of the second half and were in search of a winner. This did occasionally leave them vulnerable at the back but the defence coped very well. With time running out and luck seemingly against them, having only minutes earlier having a stonewall penalty claim turned down, Freethorpe were not to be outdone and the hero was Rix who twisted and turned inside his defender and slotted home from a narrow angle to give Freethorpe a deserved victory 2-1. Hardwork and effort is what restored our hold on the game and more of the same is required week in week out.

St Andrews v Freethorpe

FCFreethorpe travelled to a windy thorpe rec to take on a good st andrews reserves. The first half was suprisingly open with both teams carving out chances regularly. The home side took the lead when the tallest man on the pitch was allowed to roam free into the box at a corner and head home. Freethorpe thought they had got on level terms when Goodson had the ball in the net but it was ruled out for offside somewhat contentiously. Freethorpe continued to create chances and continued to not take them and were punished when St Andrews increased their lead. Read reduced the arrears for Freethorpe following a dropped catch by the home keeper. Freethorpe could and should have gone in at the break on level terms but just couldnt convert. The second half was all Freethorpe who piled on the pressure on the home team but without being able to turn pressure into goals. Freethorpe were once again denied an equaliser when Rix headed home following another dropped catch from the home keeper but the ref decided to rule out the goal. Mcmartin had a giltedged chance late on to scramble a point but it wasnt to be. chances are important but its goals that win games. Credit for the effort nonetheless.Next match: home to Newton Flotman - 2.30pm ko.

This week Freethorpe progressed to the second round of the primary cup via a walkover.Last week against Newton Flotman The lads got a 2-2 draw and though were a little lucky to only be 2-1 down in the first half had a very good second half , but could only take one of their many chances. Wells Town Res v Freethorpe

Freethorpe made the long trip to Wells in their quest to continue their recent run of good form. On a good playing surface Freethorpe got off to a great start playing some incisive football. Chances were coming frequently but the deadlock was not broken until the halfhour mark when Hurley superbly chested and volleyed home a cross from Barber. Lawton quickly doubled the visitors lead with a great solo run and shot which rattled in off the far post. Rix made it 3 goals in ten minutes to make the halftime score 3-0. Wells to their credit came into the game second half and had their fair share of the game, and deservedly pulled a goal back on the hour. The game became quite stretched with bith teams creating openings but Freethorpe held on for a convincing 3-1 victory. Competition for places is now hotting up and whilst being good for the team means people have to be patient.

Freethorpe v Wymondam Town Res

Freethorpe entertained fellow division four team Wymondham Town Res in the Norfolk Junior cup. The visitors started the game strongly but it was freethorpe who made the early breakthrough when Brown thwarted a Wymondham attack and Barber won strong header in midfield to send Rix clear who sprung the offside trap to volley home emphatically over the keepers head. Lawton increased the lead following a goalmouth scramble at a corner. Freethorpe continued the good work after the interval and Rix scored freethorpes third from an acute angle after going round the stranded keeper. Barber completed the scoring to make final score 4-0. Freethorpe Reserves

This week Freethorpe got a very good away win against Costessy Sports. After a scrappy first half Costessy opening the scoring from the spot , after which Freethorpe were finaly allowed to get the ball on the floor and play some football and levelled the score with a good finish from Kim. With the score remaining at 1-1 a tired Fiddy was replaced by Dan who worked his soaks off and got the winner. If every one puts in this sort of effort every week we could b in for a good season.

This week we will be playing at Beighton so b there at ground at 1.20

Anglian Combination Division 4 Freethorpe v Easton

Off the back of a convincing win last week Freethorpe started in lightning fashion against a very good Easton side. With just 3 minutes on the clock Rix pounced on an excellent ball across from Read to volley home and put Freethorpe into an early lead. The game was well contested and both sides were carving out chances and playing good football. However, it was Freethorpe who doubled their lead on 30 minutes when a Smith Freekick was met by Hurley who headed the ball over the keeper. Hurley had a chance to put the game beyond reach but was unlucky to see his diving header go over the bar. Easton came out strong in the second half and kept the home side on the back foot. Freethorpe had a couple of further chances but it was Easton who got back into the game from a well taken corner and finish. The game opened up in the last 10 minutes but Freethorpe held on for victory in what was a very entertaining game.

Freethorpe got off to an okish start to the season with a 1-1 draw against Hempnall A in the cup. Freethorpe will feel they missed enough chances two have won the game but in all fairness Hempnall would probally say the same.This weeks highlight was club secretary Winkle coming on the last 20 mins to make his 725th appearence for the club. This week will be our first game in division 2 away two last seasons division 3 winners costessy Sports meet at Freethorpe 12.45 sharpe!

After last weeks disappointment Freethorpe travelled to rivals Marlingford with 6 players unavailable. Freethorpe prepared themselves for a tough game as always at marlpit lane and every player contributed superbly to the team cause. Hurley, making his first start of the season got Freethorpe off to a great start heading home powerfully from a Lawton cross after just 8 minutes. Smith doubled the lead just 5 minutes later with a fortunate cross cum shot which caught the keeper off guard and looped over the keeper straight into the net. Marlingford fought themselves back into the game and reduced the arrears on 15 minutes with a good move from midfield. The second half saw Freethorpe up the tempo and scored their third goal on the hour mark when Barber slotted home from the penalty spot when Hurley was felled in the box. The ever hardworking Read deservedly scored a great goal to put the game beyond any doubt and Hurley scored his second and Freethorpes Fifth with 5 minutes remaining from a good cross from Mcmartin. An excellent team performance against a hardworking Marlingford side. The workrate and effort was back to what we have come to expect from Freethorpe sides. Well done and keep it up. After an impressive pre-season Freethorpe have experienced a very mixed start to their first season in Division 4. After getting off to a great start with a 2-0 home win over a hard working Blofield Reserves Freethorpe were quickly brought back down to earth losing 5-0 away to an impressive Harleston Town. Freethorpe then entertained Mattishall reserves at home and earned a 1-1 draw, with Danny Lawton getting on the scoresheet with an excellent solo run. Mattishall Res were quickly on level terms after an unfortunate error by the Freethorpe keeper. Freethorpe seemed to have a reprieve in the last minute when they were awarded a penalty only for the Mattishall keeper to make a top class save from the unlucky Rix. Injuries are taking their toll a little but we must continue to work hard and play with belief and the results will follow.Next Match: Away to Marlingford 2.30pm ko.

North Walsham V Freethorpe

Freethorpe travelled to North Walsham knowing a win was needed to maintain chances of winning the league. North Walsham fielded a strengthened side and were solid throughout. Freethorpe gave their all in a very competitve and hard fought game with both teams playing some quality football. Trailing 3-1 at halftime Freethorpe took the game to the home side in the second half and got themselves back in the game through an excellent cross from smith finished superbly by Read. With only 3 minutes remaining Freethorpes hopes were finally dashed when Walsham broke away to seal the Division 5 title which they thoroughly deserve. Well done to walsham for winning the league and to Freethorpe for playing with a great deal of pride and passion.

Freethorpe v Aylsham Wanderers Res

Before Kick-off The team were presented with their 'March Team of the Month award' from League Fixture secretary Chris McCullough. Freethorpe brushed aside their disappointment of losing to North Walsham with a resounding 8-1 victory against a gallant Aylsham Wanderers Reserves. This victory sealed promotion for the second successive season since joining the anglian combination in season 2006/2007. It was very fitting that top scorer Rix scored Freethorpes 100th league goal of the season after just 5 minutes. Prolific Rix added a further 5 goals to notch a double hattrick. Loomes and Hurley scored Freethorpes other 2 goals. Another tremendous season from the whole squad whose commitment, dedication and application really is second to none. Your manager, supporters and whole club are all very proud of your efforts and achievements! well done lads.

Freethorpe Reserves

In a hard fought midweek game Freethorpe got the points they needed to secure a mid table finish with a hard fought 1-0 win over Hempnall A. In a tight game Freethorpes winner came in the second half with a great finish from a tight angle via Liam.

This meant that Saterdays game was meaningless for Freethorpe as they could not go up or down , however Costessy needed the win to secure the title and this they got as freethorpe decided to play like the under 14..s and refuse to header any balls that came into their box. All in all a half decent first season.

Freethorpe v Mundford Res

Freethorpe entertained Mundford Res for an important fixture which turned out to be a hard fought game. Freethorpe were unchanged from the previous week and started brightly with Read soon on hand to open the scoring from a well placed pass from Lawton. Lawton himself added a second soon after with a well taken header at the back post from an accurate cross from Smith on the left flank. Freethorpe were then guilty of easing off and relaxing somewhat which allowed Mundford to gradually work themselves into the game. On the stroke of halftime the normally ultra reliable Morris made an error in judgement and allowed the Mundford striker a chance he did not miss to reduce the arrears. Freethorpe took a while to get going in the second half but the introduction of Hurley and Ward with half hour remaining had an immediate impact. The tempo of play increased and chances were coming thick and fast but the Mundford keeper was in fine form. However, with little over ten minutes remaining Garside latched onto a Hurley flick on and volleyed home. Garside added another almost straight away after some superb build up play. Rix completed the scoring soon after from the Penalty spot. Final Score 5-1.

Freethorpe ResPlaying in midweek against 2nd place side Marborough Arms , Freethorpe put in a fantasic performance and can consider themselfs very unlucky not to have gained a point having been 1-0 up and then giving away a needless pentaly and playing all of the second half with 10 men. If we could play like this all the while we would be going up a division. Then came saterday and though we had our goalie and goalscorer missing we were complete and utter rubbsh!..oh i think Fiddy may have scored...

Necton v Freethorpe

Freethorpe took the trip round the A47 to Necton knowing that a victory would lift them into the promotion places. This seemed to inspire Freethorpe into a good performance with goals coming regularly throughout the game. Prolific striker Rix scored his 49th and 50th goals of the season within the opening 12 minutes of the game. Fullback Burns was on hand shortly after to head home a delightful cross from Smith. Freethorpe then seemed to ease off and went through the motions for the rest of the half. Freethorpe started slowly in the second half and Necton deserve credit for their hard work and endeavour. Smith scored Freethorpes fourth on the hour mark from a Loomes long throw. Read added another slotting home neatly from a Rix throughball. Rix completed his hatrick from a freekick when the same player was brought down on the edge of the box. The sprightly Lawton then added two goals in two minutes with substitute Marsh completing the scoring in the final minute to make the final score 9-0. A good solid performance. Freethorpe Res v Drayton Res

With both sides not playing for the best part of a month it showed in a scrappy game with not much football played. Freethorpe started ok but after 15 mins fell away and were 1-0 down at half time. With a change made at half time Freethorpe got an early goal from Johnny then missed a sitter after which the game went back to its scrappy state with Drayton then taking the lead. After this Drayton defended well and their looked no way through for Freethorpe so Johnny ( despite his protest!) was put wide right and Freethorpe scored late on from one of the corners created by this thanks to a bullet header from Craig.

Sheringham Res v Freethorpe

Freethorpe travelled to Sheringham knowing that a win was vital to maintain promotion hopes. Freethorpe got off to an impressive start putting the home side on the back foot. Following a corner Mark Smith opened the scoring on seven minutes finishing well from close range. Barber added a second almost immediately rounding the keeper and tucking the ball home calmly. The remainder of the half was evenly contested with the main danger to Freethorpes goal coming from conceding unnecessary freekicks. Skipper Whitefoot was withdrawn at halftime and replaced by Garside so that he could take his daughter to hospital. Everyone at the club wish her well. Freethorpe started the second half brightly and quickly put the game beyond doubt when Rix cleverly flicked home a header from an excellent long throw from Loomes. Freethorpe seemed to step off the gas briefly and Sheringham scored following a goalmouth scramble from a corner kick. Freethorpe responded impressively and Rix added his second just minutes later with a perfect header back across the keeper from a well taken freekick. Rix was on hand to complete yet another hattrick with ten minutes remaining driving the ball across the keeper just inside the far post. Substitute Marsh added Freethorpes sixth in the final minute controlling a good cross from Smith and slotting past the keeper. Attleborough Res v Freethorpe

Freethorpe travelled to Attleborough trying to keep on the coat tails of the promotion chasers. However, they encountered a very resolute and organised Attleborough side who did not role over. Chances were at a premium and neither side took advantage of the few chances created. Rix went closest for Freethorpe when a superb header guided back from the far post rebounded off the cross bar. The home side nearly took the lead themselves shortly after when Burns excellently cleared off the line with the keeper beaten. Half-time 0-0. The second half was also a tight affair with the likelihood of a single goal sealing the points for either side. Freethorpe went close when Hurley broke through only to be denied by a last ditch tackle from the boro defender. Freethorpe again looked to have made the breakthrough when Barber crossed superbly from the right but Garside guided the header wide of the far post from point blank range. Just moments later top scorer Rix sealed an important victory when Morris played a long ball forward which Rix latched onto and on the second attempt scored the all important goal. Final Score 0-1. Norwich CEYMS Res v Freethorpe

Freethorpe travelled to Swardeston expecting another tough encounter after narrowly winning 1-0 against the hosts just two weeks ago. The wind was extremely strong and straight down the pitch which made for difficult conditions. However, credit must go to both sides for getting the ball down and playing some neat football and trying to play in a positive manner. Freethorpe were playing into a very strong head wind in the first half and could have opened the scoring after just a few minutes but found the home keeper in terrific form once again. Soon after, the keeper denied the prolific Rix from close range. The Freethorpe defence remained firm against the wind and gave a solid base for the rest of the team. On 13 minutes Freethorpe took the lead when Ward pounced on a loose ball following yet another good save from the keeper. The second half saw Freethorpe get an early goal to extend their lead when Rix struck home convincingly from the penalty spot after Lawton was felled in the box. CEYMS then had a good spell of play but could not find a way through the Freethorpe defence. The CEYMS keeper made another terrific save from point blank range from a powerful Hurley header before substitute Read made the game safe on 75 minutes and final score was 3-0. A good team performance with Rix exceptional yet again in attack.Next Game: Away to Attleborough Res - 2.30pm KO.

This week in a game that should have been won after 15 mins ( hitting the post after 30 seconds) we some how managed to draw 2-2 with Ben only making 1 save. In a wind affected scappy game I still can't work out if we coped well in bad conditions, were unlucky or rubbish! Marshy got two good goals and 50 year old Wee Willy was back! Next week we are playing at somewhere called Freethorpe so have your sat navs ready!!

Freethorpe played hosts to a gallant and hardworking Watton Utd Reserves. Although Freethorpe got off to an excellent start when Whitefoots freekick was deflected into the net after just 5 minutes Watton held Freethorpe for the majority of the first half. Two strikes just before half time swung the game in Freethorpes favour. A good worked move involving ward and then a one two with whitefoot saw Garside calmy slot the ball past the keeper. Rix was then on hand to quickly add Freethorpes third with an excellent drive from the edge of the box. The alert Lawton quickly got the second half up and running with a well taken lob. Then the game turned into the Rix show adding a further three superb goals. The first a volley from a burns freekick. The second was a cool finish past the keeper. The last was the goal of the day with an excellent strike into the top corner following an excellent run. It was a good boost for the team to have the influential Hurley back in the first team fold following an injury layoff. As Marlborough had only lost one league game all season , Freethorpe decided not to buck the trend and put in a shocking 1st half display. The 3 goals they give away would have upset the under 5`s manager with only Ben and Johnny coming out of the first half with any credit. As u cant make 9 subs the players had a chance to redeem themself`s in the second half and in all fairness they did and had the luck been with them may well have got the 3 goals back however the only luck we got was bad.

Freethorpe continued their recent run of good form with a hard earned win against a strong Norwich CEYMS side. It was a hard fought game which was well handled by the stand in referee especially considering the quite physical nature of the game. Freethorpe did not ever get into the rhythym of the previous week but did manage to create some decent chances. The first fell to Ward after just two minutes when he rattled the bar with a strong header. The same player repeated the feat 10 minutes later. The deadlock was eventually broken on the stroke of halftime when Rix was felled in the box with a clear run on goal. Rix picked himself up and brushed himself down to confidently convert the spotkick. The second half was aa close affair with Freethorpe having more possession but with the visitors remaining resolute throughout. The keeper was in fine form and made some excellent saves. Final score 1-0. A good result in difficult circumstances.Next Match: v Watton Utd Res 2.30pm kick off.

Foulsham were the visitors to Freethorpe for a winner takes all battle with both teams knowing that only victory was good enough if any chances of promotion were to remain. Freethorpe started the game with a great determination and had a real purpose about their play. The pace of the game was frantic with Freethorpe presssing the ball all over the pitch to hurry Foulsham into giving away the ball. This seemed to force the visitors to resort to playing the long ball which the Freethorpe defence dealt with superbly. With chances at a premium it was top scorer Rix who opened the scoring on the half hour mark from a Ward corner. Freethorpe were dominating the midfield and having quite a bit of joy down the flanks but were were unable to apply the finishing touches to add to their lead. The second half saw Freethorpe maintain their momentum and continue to force the pace of the game. They never let the visitors settle into any kind of rhythm and were now enjoying long periods of possession playing some superb passing football with only the Foulsham keeper and some last ditch defending keeping the score at 1-0. However, with 15 minutes remaining Rix picked up the ball and from 25 yards drilled it into the bottom corner of the net for an excellent finish to put the game safe and ensure Freethorpes promotion hopes remain a possibility. Freethorpe followed up the previous weeks good result with another convincing win against a hardworking Sprowston wanderers. Freethorpe got off to a perfect start with Read opening the scoring after just 5 minutes. Barber then doubled the lead just minutes later. Freethorpe continued to press and seemed to create chances at will. However, the finishing was not as clinical as the approach play and the score remained at 2-0 at the interval. Second half started slowly but Freethorpe gradually got back into their stride and eventually added 5 further goals. Top scorer Rix got in on the act followed by Burns who rifled the ball into the roof of the net after a good layoff by Loomesy. Garside was next to score from a corner before Loomesy scored not only the goal of the match but the goal of the season. The sprowston keeper took a decent goal kick only for Loomesy to control the ball and plant straight back over the keepers head from a full 45 yards. Ward rounded off the Freethorpe scoring with a well taken header which meant Freethorpe had scored 7 goals all by different scorers. Sprowston gallantly battled on and got a deserved consolation in injury time to make the final score 7-1. After last weeks disappointment this weeks game was all about attitude and credit must go to the whole team for reacting in such a positive way to the criticiscm following last weeks game. Travelling to Aylsham we were pleasantly surprised by the conditions following the overnight flurry of snow. The home team started brightly and the opening 20 minutes or so were evenly contested. However, as soon as Freethorpe got the opening goal on 22 minutes the result never really looked in doubt. Rix got his first of the game planting the ball into the top corner from a corner. He quickly added his second scoring from a one on one with the keeper. Fellow strike partner Read got in on the act shortly after slotting home following good work from Barber and Ward. The prolific Rix then completed his hatrick before half time after excellent wing play from the sprightly Ward.Second half saw Freethorpe continue to add goals at regular intervals. Garside notched with a good long shot shortly followed by Lawton who went on a solo run before exquisitely lobbing the keeper. Rix scored his fourth after Ward had hit the bar from point blank range, and Read then netted twice in two minutes to complete his well earned hat trick. Skipper whitefoot completed the scoring to make the final score 10-0. A decent performance but more importantly was the application and effort. More of the same this week. Freethorpe Res v South Walsham Res Freethorpe got back to league action following their mid-season break and nearly lost a game that should have been wrapped up midway through the second half. In an end to end first half Freethorpe took the lead through A Marsh with both sides missing half chances. Come the second half Freethorpe missed 3 good chances but looked to be holding on their lead ok when 15 mins from time South Walsham scored , after this Freethorpe were under the cosh and only last ditch defending and two fantastic saves from Ben meant they held on for a point.

Freethorpe FC In their first game for a month Freethorpe entertained a strong North Walsham Reserves. Freethorpe seemed sluggish from the start and the lack of games seemed to be showing. However, it was Freethorpe who took the lead against the run of play on 12 minutes when the alert Read latched onto a good ball into the box from Ward. Walsham continued to have the better possession and Freethorpe conceded too many freekicks in and around the box and were duly punished when keeper Pentney lost control of a freekick in the swirling wind with the ball ending up in the net. Walsham then took the lead with Freethorpe failing to pick up runners. The second half saw a completely different Freethorpe side with the usual sharpness and desire returning to their play. Walsham played out most of the second half in their own half and Freethorpe continued to drive forward looking for the equaliser. The midfield got the ball down and played with far better width but the second goal was proving elusive. Barber was unlucky when the keeper made a great save from a good shot from the edge of the box. Rix was then only inches away following an excellent ball into the far post from Barber. But the chance of the match fell to Lawton who took a great first touch but losing his balance stabbed the ball wide from close range. Freethorpe can consider themselves unlucky not to have got at least a draw. However, a harsh lesson has been learnt in recent weeks that against quality opposition we must put in the effort from the first minute to the last and take our chances to win games. Freethorpe Res V Ingoldisthorpe Res Freethorpes good run in the primary cup ended with a 2-0 defeat despite their best efforts. However with key players missing Ingoldisthorpe were just a little bit to good on the day though had Fiddys 1st half goal not have been disallowed for offside things would have been very interesting. Well done to Johnny for taking over in goal for the day.

Freethorpe finished 2007 with a home win against a hardworking Necton side. The game was played in windy conditions which did not make for pretty football from either team but Freethorpe ground out a result in a hard fought game. Freethorpe created a couple of chances early on with Rix pulling his shot wide with just the keeper to beat. Then it was the turn of fellow striker Lawton who shot wide with an open goal beckoning. However, Freethopre kept knocking on the door and were eventually rewarded when Ward was alert to a flick-on from Rix and poked the ball home. The second half was also a tight affair with defences looking solid. Once again it was the prolific Rix who wrapped the game up for Freethorpe adding two more goals to his tally. The first a header at the backpost from a good cross from Smith and the second a solo effort. A solid performance albeit not spectacular. Final score 3-0. Keep up the hard work lads. No game this week. Happy New Year from everyone at Freethorpe and best of luck to the reserves who entertain Ingoldisthorpe Reserves in the Norfolk Primary Cup.

This week with Marshy back Freethorpe were 2-1 up after about 30 mins. After this Horsford had all the play with Freethorpe hitting the post twice on the break and it stayed like this untill the last 10 mins when Freethorpe managed to concede 3! the last two after we were down to 10 due to an injury. For the third time in four weeks Freethorpe were up against second division opposition. And although this week the result was not favourable the performance was very commendable. In the quarter finals of the Cyrill Balyn Cup hosts Horsford Utd took the lead after just 3 minutes when the alert striker atttacked the near post from a well taken corner. Freethorpe regrouped and gradually played themselves into the game and topscorer Rix equalised on 20 minutes with an exsquisite finish from a very acute angle. Horsford regained their lead 5 minutes later when the striker turned inside Burns and stuck home into the far corner. Once again Freethorpe showed tremendous character against higher opposition and fought back to equalise when Mark Brown finished a good run down the right flank with a well taken goal. The second half saw Freethorpe start to dominate the play and on a number of occasions had their opponents on the backfoot. The midfield got hold of the first ball and used it wisely to create problems for the home team. With 15 minutes remaining a decisive moment in the game happenend when the alert Read latched onto a throughball and rounded the keeper before drilling the ball across the face of the goal to Rix who was extremely unlucky to put the ball over the bar from close range following a last ditch deflection from a lunging defender. Freethorpe were to rue the missed chance when with 5 minutes remaining Horsford took the lead at a freekick. Freethorpe immediately pushed forward in search of an equaliser and got caught to concede another late goal to make the final score 4-2. A very good cup tie with both teams competing extremely well and Freethorpe can consider themselves unlucky to have lost. Good luck to Horsford in the next round. If Freethorpes defence had gone missing the last couple of weeks they more than made up for it this week , not only keeping a clean sheet but scoring two of the three goals that took the Res to the fourth round of the Primary cup. From the start it was clear that Sporle were a very good footballing side but Freethorpe took full advantage of kicking down hill and the strong wind to go 3-0 up in the first half with goals from Craig , David and another from Dazler. It was clear Freethorpe would spend all of the second half defending their lead and this they did well as a team with good goal kicks from Gooders , the front men holding the ball up well when they got it and everybody else giving their all. As the game went on the rain got harder the pitch got worse (was that rain or tears in Winkles eyes ?) to resemble a mud bath. But despite all this Gooders in goal only had a couple of saves to make. After last weeks disappointing exit from the Norfolk Junior Cup Freethorpe travelled to rivals Marlingford in a league encounter. The conditions were difficult with wind and rain in abundance. Freethorpe seemed to cope very well and started the game extremely sprightly putting Marlingford on the back foot for much of the opening half hour. Then in a mad 15 minutes before halftime the game was lost. The good work that had gone before was cancelled out with individual errors causing three out of the four goals that Marlingford proceeded to score. This put the game out of reach. The object of the second half was to restore some pride and continue to show plenty of character. This was achieved albeit after conceding yet another cheap goal. Read scored a consolation for Freethorpe. The quality of play at times was exceptional especially when considering the conditions and unbelievably Marlingford were restricted to only a couple of real chances in the game but somehow ended up with five goals. This is a game we must put behind us and what is important is how we react to the recent couple of setbacks that we have had. Time to stay united and continue to believe in ourselves. Freethorpe Res v Hempnall A This week we played Hempnall at Saxlingham ? and played some of the best football we have played all season and managed to lose 4-2 which would have been 5 were it not for a great double pentley save from Ben. With two of our fowards missing and our defence playing like they had gone to the pitch Hempnall Freethorpe could not convert their many chances with Fiddy really needing one of those goals on wheels. On the plus side Dazler came on with 20 mins to go and scored the goal he promised he would and Dan got rewarded for all his hard work with a goal near the end

For the second week in succession Freethorpe were pitting their wits against Anglian Combination Division Two opposition. This time it was Poringland Wanderers in the Norfolk Junior Cup. The two teams met at the same stage last year with Freethorpe looking to make amends for the 3-2 defeat. Playing into a very strong headwind Freethorpe started brightly and contested very well against a strong Poringland side. It took time for both teams to adapt to the conditions but on the first real attack of any purpose in the game Freethorpe took the lead when Hurley burst into the box and Read pounced on the loose ball to slide past the advancing keeper. Although Poringland enjoyed slightly more possession Freethorpe were matching their opponents and limited the visitors to long range efforts. The only real threat seemed to be from set pieces and so it proved. On 25 minutes the ball was whipped into the Freethorpe penalty area across the face of the goal from a freekick and was allowed to reach the far post unchallenged allowing Poringland to nip in and score from close range. Stand in keeper Marsh then made an excellent double save to keep Freethorpe on level terms. Freethorpe regrouped and looked to be safely heading to halftime when from another freekick the Freethorpe keeper spilled and the alert Poringland striker pounced to take the lead. The second half was also a very tight affair with chances at a premium at both ends. Poringland remained strong as did the Freethorpe defence who were excellent throughout and probably did not deserve to be on the losing side. However, for all the probing Freethorpe could not carve out the chance to remain in the cup. Great effort lads. Best of luck to Poringland in the next round. Back to league action this week. Freethorpe played hosts to division 2 opponents Bungay Town in the Cyril Balyn Cup fully aware of their recent excellent league results. Freethorpe knew it was important to start the game well and not allow the visiting team time on the ball or to settle into any kind of rhythm. The tempo was set from the start of the game and was relentless. Every player competed just as was asked of them and matched their more illustrious opponents. With players pressing the ball and closing down play quickly all over the park Freethorpe quickly gained possession and in general made very good use of it. Freethorpe were handed the first real opportunity on the half hour mark when Read was fouled in the box following excellent approach play but fellow strike partner Rix failed to convert from the spot. However, he made amends immediately when striking home the opening goal from the back post from the resulting corner. The second half saw Freethorpe continue to press and force the pace of the game and they deservedly extended their lead when Rix converted an excellent cross from Ward who was now terrorising the Bungay fullback. The prolific Rix completed his superb hatrick with a rifling header at the far post after excellent play and cross from Read. Final score 3-0. This was a real discliplined performance with every player showing a real desire to succeed. First class effort lads. Freesthorpe Res v Mousehold This week Freethorpe got their fist league win of the season on what turned out to b a eventful day. Having got changed we had to get back in to our cars and drive round Norwich to the pitch ( Fun with football boots on) The pitch itself was kids size with a surface like the moon and trees overhanging one touchline and just to add to the fun yet again we had no ref. However this all adds to the fun as its the same for both sides and their player who reffed the game done a great job. Freethorpe started with father and son ( Willie and liam) playing together in the team for the first time which worked well as willie was injured after 5 mins by which time Freethorpe should have been 2 up. As it was Freethorpe took the lead via Liam after 15 mins and were looking good untill about 25 mins when Mousehold scored to make it 1-1 , Freethorpe then went straight up the other end and took the lead when Adam slotted home. For the rest of the game Freethorpe had spells of playing some very good football and spells of playing utter rubbish. In the second half Ben burst the ball with one of his drops kicks and Adam got the winner 10 mins from time. After the game we all found out where the saying freezing your xxxx off comes from as to save the car journey back to the changing rooms we changed out side and that meant that mark the only player who had ridden with someone else had to walk back which was quite funny.

Playing a team flying high in the league above us freethorpe put on a very good performance and were unlucky not to take the tie to extra time. As per last week Freethorpe started off asleep and gifted Hoveton a goal almost from the kick off .After this Freethorpe defended very well and limted Hoveton to long shoots but in a game of few chances failed to take the few chances they had. Well done to Adam playing his first game for the club and thanks again to willie and the Hoveton player who reffed the game fairly

Freethorpe travelled to Mundford to take on a determined and resolute home team. The first half saw Freethorpe have the lions share of possession with most of it played out in their opponents half. However, due to a combination of excellent defending, good goalkeeping and men behind the ball, Mundford managed to contain Freethorpe for all of the first half. In the second half Freethorpe continued to pass the ball and tempt the home team out. Patience was required to ensure Freethorpe maintained their shape and organisation whilst searching for the opening goal. On the hour mark the deadlock was broken in style when prolific topscorer Rix scored four sensational goals in nine sensational minutes. The first from the edge of the box, second following a richochet, the third a header and the fourth from the penalty spot. Freethorpe were now well and truly on top and Hurley, Lawton and Smith added further goals to make the final score 7-0. A fair scoreline but much credit must go to Mundford for their determination throughout. Now onto two tough cup games in the next two weeks. Lets give it our best shot lads. Freethorpe made the long trip to Hunstanton in the 3rd round of the Norfok junior cup followed by our fantastic dedicated supporters. With a 140 mile round trip this was greatly appreciated. On the pitch the team did not disappoint and came away with a deserved 4-1 victory. Freethorpe went straight on the attack and could have opened the scoring before Hunstanton had even set foot in the Freethorpe half. However, the deadlock was not broken until midway through the first half when Ward scored with a cross-cum-shot. Thie lead was quickly doubled when Whitefoot scored with a superb free kick following a foul on Barber. The second half was more even and Hunstanton got themselves back into the game on the hour mark. Freethorpe quickly exxtinguished any hopes of a comeback with Ward scoring his second of the game straight from the restart. Substitue Lawton come on and won a penalty late on following aa good run into the box. Lawton scored the spot kick himself. A good performance from all 13 players used. Freethorpe Res playing a rare league game picked up their first point of the season in a end to end game. Horsford went in front early on via a tap from a free kick that went straight threw Freethorpes cowboy builders wall with Freethorpe getting back soon after with another goal from Ashley. Freethorpe conceded another sloppy goal and then Craig scored his 5th fluke of the season two level things up again. After this their was good football from both sides but no more goals. Another good performance back to cup action again next week.

Freethope Res v Docking Current mood: cheerful Freethope progressed to the last 32 of the Norfolk Primary cup with a hard earnt 3-2 win over Docking. Freethorpe started well enough but as the half went on lost their way a bit and went 2-0 down and then got1 back just before half time. In the second half Freethorpe were a lot better and created many a chance and with Docking helping them by having a man sent off came back to win the game 3-2. Freethorpe goals came from Dan and two more from A Marsh. The highlight of the game was willie coming on in the second half on his 49th birthday yes its true he is only! 49 in his new boots and missing 2 chances. Freethorpe FC With tough selection problems the manager decided to make two changes to the starting line-up to keep the squad on its toes against Stalham Town Reserves. The first half was a reasonably tight affair with the swirling wind making conditions difficult. Freethorpe did carve out some good goalscoring chances but could not add the finishing touches and were left wondering if the missed chances would prove costly. However, on 36 minutes Read opened the scoring following good approach play from Garside and Rix. Freethorpe were guilty of conceding needless free kicks in the first half which was unsettling their rhythm. Second half Freethorpe moved the ball with much more purpose and were quickly rewarded with a header at the back post from Brown scoring his first goal for the club from a corner. Top scorer Rix was on hand to score an excellent solo effort and Freethorpes third shortly after. Hurley and Lawton replaced Read and Rix upfront for Freethorpe and they combined superbly to score a well worked goal with Lawton laying off the ball for Hurley to strike home. Garside returning from injury added Freethorpes fifth from the penalty spot after Hurley was felled in the box. This week we went on a 60 mile joy ride to play Docking in the cup and gave Mr Macmartin a performance to be proud of on his 70th Birthday. While Docking were clearly a very good side Freethorpe had good perfomances all over the pitch from Ash in goal to Fiddy up front and earned a replay after a 1-1 draw with Craig scoring an amazing goal going past 8 players before playing the ball on to the post and in. Freethorpe FCFreethorpe progressed to the 3rd round of the Norfolk Junior Cup with a convincing 6-2 win over Holt Utd Reserves. Freethorpe looked strong from the outset and took the lead after just 2 minutes when Read pounced onto a throughball and slotted the ball neatly past the advancing keeper. Holt were undeterred and equalised on the quarter of an hour mark from a near post corner. Freethorpe regained the lead just minutes later through a wonder strike from top scorer Rix, flicking the ball over the last defender and volleying ferociously over the helpless keeper. Freethorpe extended their lead just before the break when Whitefoot played a good ball out to Burns who played into the path of Barber who rounded the keeper to slot home. Freethorpe did not let up after the break and quickly scored two further goals through the alert Mark Brown who twice pounced on mistakes by the Holt defence and keeper to help himself to two goals. Holt managed to score a second from a set piece on the hour mark but Freethorpe had the final say with a well taken goal by Read. A good solid performance from the whole squad and a very welcome return to first team action for Hurley following an injury layoff.Next match: Stalham Res at Home. 2pm kick off.

Freethorpe Res v Sprowston BeehiveThis week in a tribute to England we played rugby time ( started 5 mins after the game next to us and finshed well before it ! No ref ! ! !) However Freethorpe played very well and deserved something from the game. Freethorpe took the lead with a great finish from Dan and then went two up via Ashley with a great run and finish following a Beckham like pass from the manager. Having worked tirelessly freethorpe were unlucky to concide a goal just before half time. In the second half playing the same way Freethorpe looked to have won the game when they went 3-1 up following a goal by Mike playing his first game of the season. Sprowston then got a goal back but with 15 mins remaining Freethorpe looked good for a point but with decisions not going their way Freethorpe then had a pentaly awarded against them and then conceded a fourth nearly straight away. Freethorpe nearly equallised from a corner and then the whistle went! If we can play like this everyweek we will start picking up the points.Thanks go to 69 year old Mr Macmartin for being Manager and linesman for the day.

Freethorpe progressed to the next round of the cup after extra time and pens in a game that they should have wrapped up by half time. Having taken a 2-0 lead in the first half via S burns and the outstanding Paddy Freethorpe then let 1 in to go in 2-1 up at half time. In the second half Paddy scored another to give Freethorpe back their 2 goal lead only to then have to go off as his lungs had gone. Freethorpe then give away their lead and at full time it was hence 3-3. Maybe they were missing the108 years worth of talent not in the squad due to almost a full squad for the first time this season. Extra time was a non event so it was down to pens and the chance for everyone to show Barry how to take a penaltys and they did just that with George , Craig , David and johnny slotting home and two great saves from Ben meaning Freethorpe went Through.

FREETHORPE RES V DRAYTON RES AWAY SHOES TRADES CUP

this weeks game seemed a certain draw only for all our hard work to go to waste by conceding a late late goal to lose 1-0. The morning started badly by us being let down by one played who forgot we were playing ! however things then got better as we signed another goalie Ben who not only had a great first game for the club but it also gives us another good outfield player and means the club now has 3 very good goalkeepers.The game started well for freethorpe with two very good chances created which should have been scored after this few chances were created and a draw looked certain. With ten mins remaining the manager decided to replace wee willie with his own 27 years younger legs and within minutes Drayon had scored !

FREETHORPE FIRST V THORPE ROVERS CYRIL BALWYN CUP HOME

Freethorpe FCFreethorpe played hosts to Thetford Rovers in the cyril balwyn cup who are flying high in the third division. Freethorpe knew it was important to get off to a positive start and went straight on the attack. The game was surprisingly open with both teams creating chances early on. Freethorpe had the first real goalscoring opportunity and were to rue the missed chance when Thetford cleared the ball and from a backpass Freethorpe keeper Pentney dwelled on the ball and allowed the alert Thetford striker to nip in and open the scoring. Freethorpe remained composed and opend up the Thetford defence on a number of occasions. Freethorpe deservedly got on level terms when the impressive Garside was felled inside the box. Rix dispatched the resulting penalty with confidence. Freethorpe were enjoying good spells of possesion and took the lead when skipper Whitefoot excellenty executed a free kick following a foul on Garside. Thetford changed their shape at half time and had more possesion as a result. However, it was Freethorpe who extended their lead when Barber latched onto a loose ball 25 yards from goal and unleashed an unstoppable drive. Thetford drove on looking for a way back into the game and got their second goal of the game from a free kick on the left. Although the remaining 15 minutes were played out mainly in the Freethorpe half the defence looked solid and handled the situation admirably. A good teaam performace and excellent result against a team two divisions higher. No match this week.

FREETHORPE FIRST V WATTON RES LEAGUE AWAY

Freethorpe travelled to Watton for a Division 5 fixture and were extremely impressed with the excellent condition of the pitch. Freethorpe started brightly on the spacious pitch and were quick to ask questions of the home defence. Rix opened the scoring after just 4 minutes following good approach play from Read and Barber. Freethorpe were playing some decent football and fellow strike partner Read was on hand to score two goals in two minutes to extend Freethorpe's lead midway through the half. The first was tucked away neatly following a clever interception and pass from Ward. The second was a far post finish after Morris had played the ball down the left flank and lawton crossed first time. Rix then got his second of the game to put Freethorpe firmly in control. Pentney in the Freethorpe goal was excellent when called upon making two very good saves. Watton pulled one back before half time following a close offside decision. The second half saw Freethorpe in control of the game ad moving the ball swiftly. Rix was first to complete his hatrick from a cross from Read, and Rix returned the favour for Read to complete his hattrick. Rix rounded off the scoring with Freethorpes seventh 6 minutes from time. FREETHORPE RES V GIMINGHAM PRIMARY CUP HOME

Freethorpe res got their first win of the season 5-0 against Gimingham resin the primarycup. again this week we had a very young squad with 8 of the 14 being youngsters. This week we started 66 year old Willy Mac in the center of midfield and from the start the shape of the side looked a lot better. The first goal came from Craig Sharman who caught the keeper out with a long range freekick , The second was a poorly taken pentaly from Barry Payne (and he is !) and then came a thunderbolt from Shawn Howley. In the second half freethorpe were saved from conceding a goal via a great double save from Ashley marsh and then got two more goals a great shot from Barry and a well taken goal from Daniel payne. more of the same please

FREETHORPE FIRST v ARCHERS NORFOLK JUNIOR CUP HOME

After no game last week Freethorpe returned to action in the Norfolk Junior Cup. Arches Utd were the opponents from the Great Yarmouth and District League. Both teams gave a good account of themselves in an enjoyable and entertaining game. All the goals came in the first half of the match. Freethorpe had the first chance of the match when Garside somehow managed to steer the ball wide with just the keeper to beat from close range. However, Rix was on hand shortly after to give Freethorpe the lead after an excellent run and cross from Ward following a shot from Garside. Arches got themselves back on level terms with an superbly executed freekick from the edge of the box. Freethorpe took the lead 5 minutes before half time with Smith heading home what turned out to be the winning goal after a good delivery from Rix. The second half was more open but with limited chances. A solid performance and an important victory against a good Arches outfit.Next Match: away to Watton Reserves 2.30pm ko.

This week things went from bad to worse for Freethorpe with a 9-2 defeat. Starting with 5 youngsters in the side in looked as freethorpe could take something from the game in the first half but as things went against them heads went down and we ended up with a thumping! 0n the plus side its good for the club to have so many young players and to see 65 year old super sub wee willie to showing them how to score.

In their first league game of the season freethorpe came up against a very good Sprowston Beehive side. Freethorpe took the lead in the first half only for Sprowston to come back with two goals and looking the better side.In the second half freethorpe kept it a bit tighter and for the first 20 mins or so it became a very close came , after this spowston got the all important 3rd goal goal from a defensive mix up and after this took control and ran out 5-1 winners. This was our fourth game and only one player has played in all four games so hopefully things may settle down a bit as players come back from their hols ect and as for the NCFC season ticket holders ! ! ! !

Freethorpe res played their first game of the season and though lost done very well to field a team and 2 subs. believe it or not the club had a total of 13 players missing due to injury etc which meant signing on 5 players on the day. FREETHORPE 1ST V SHERINGHAM RES AT HOME LEAGUE

Freethorpe FCWith seven first team players unavailable Freethorpe knew that a good performance was essential against visitors Sheringham Res. Forced changes were made following last weeks victory but everyone who came into the starting line up gave a good account of themselves. Straight from the kick off Smith attacked down the left flank and crossed for Rix to strike a volley with real force only for the keeper to be equal to it. Freethorpe continued their good start and took the lead on 15 minutes when Rix turned outside his marker and drilled the ball home with his left foot across the keeper. The lead was reasonably short lived with Sheringham equalising 10 minutes before half time after a good save from Pentney was tapped in by the alert sheringham forward. Sheringham took the lead shortly after halftime with Freethorpe failing to pick up their markers. However, it was Freethorpe who were now starting to get on top and enjoying alot of possession in the opposition half with debutants Lynch and Cresswell both having good games. Rix was extremely unlucky with a super effort from outside the box which was excellently saved by the Sheringham keeper. Another top class save denied what looked like a certain goal from close range from Maskell. Freethorpe were determined to get something from the game and they continued to drive forward with purpose and Rix got his just rewards for a hard working performance with a deserved equaliser with 5 minutes remaining. Freethorpe had a couple of chances late on to take all three points but the game finished 2-2. A hard working performance which on another day would have been three points. FREETHORPE V NEWTON FLOTMAN AT HOME

Freethorpe FCAfter a disappointing result in midweek Freethorpe were looking for a good display and three points against visitors Newton Flotman. However, Flotman were well prepared and matched Freethorpes formation and it was Flotman that got off to the better start and opened the scoring on 13 minutes with a well struck shot from outside the box. Freethorpe reacted positively and carved out a number of chances which should have been converted. Garside and Lawton both found themselves in excellent positions but finishing let them down. Freethorpe started the second half looking eager to get back on level terms and done so within 5 minutes of the restart. Read rounded off a good team move to get Freethorpe up and running. Freethorpe were now enjoying lengthy spells of posession and deservedly took the lead when Rix converted from the spot after Barber was felled. Rix was again on hand just two minutes later to turn and strike home Freethorpes third after excellent wing play from Smith. Rix completed a quickfire hattrick almost straight from the kick-off twisting and turning in the Flotman box before convincingly beating the keeper. Freethorpe maintained the high tempo throughout the second half and got their just rewards for their efforts. A good second half display. Next Match: Sheringham Res at Home 2.30pm KO.

FREETHORPE V STALHAM RES,FOULSHAM,MARLINGFORD AUGUST 2007

FC Freethorpe have now played three games this season and have started their campaign in Division 5 with two good wins followed by a defeat. Firstly, Freethorpe got off to a solid start away to stalham reserves in oour debut in division 5. Goals coming from Garside and Read following good work from brown and Loomes. Freethorpe travelled to Foulsham on saturday to play a very competent and fit Foulsham side on a very wide pitch. Foulsham took the lead when Freethorpe were caught in possession. This seemed to spur Freethorpe into action and Garside set up Lawton for a tap in. garside scored himself shortly after and Rix added a third on the stroke of halftime with an overhead volley. Rix made the game safe with a fourth midway through the second half which was quickly followed by Read with a solid header. Foulsham got two consolation goals late on which took the shine off the result. Thank you to Foulsham for their extremely friendly hospitality both at the ground and the pub - a credit to the league. On Tuesday night Freethorpe entertained rivals Marlingford who were quick off the mark and showed why they came runners up to Freethorpe in the league last season. They played with a real purpose whilst Freethorpe started very slowly. A mistake by Lawton gifted the opening goal to Marlingford but Freethorpe worked themselves back into the game and Rix equalised with an excellent solo effort. However, Freethorpe were again caught ball watching on the stroke of half time and Marlingford took a deserved lead into the break. Second half saw the entrance of Ward and S Brown who both had an impact on the game and swung the game in Freethorpes favour. However, extended periods of play being played out in the opponents last third did not lead to what would probably have been a deserved equaliser. final score 2-1. Time to reflect on last three games and see where we need to improve. Next game: Newton Flotman at Home (2.30pm Ko).

FREETHORPE V HOLT RESERVES LEAGUE HOME

Unless the almost impossible happen whereby Marlingford manage to win by 30 clear goals in their remaining two games Freethorpe will be named as champions of Division six in their first season in the Anglian Combination. The Division has been particurlary competitive this season with so many good teams joining the division from feeder leagues. To finish top of the pile losing just one league game all season is very comendable and credit must go to the whole squad of players whose attitude and application has been excellent throughout. Also a big thank you to the supporters who have followed us home and away come rain or shine. Freethorpe secured their final victory of the season against a strong Holt Utd Reserves. Freethorpe were without the services of Pentney, Barber and Garside but the team coped superbly. The disclipline and organisation of the team gave a solid base from which to play and in a close first half were rewarded for their efforts on the stroke of half time, when Danny Lawton played a cross field pass to the advancing Hurley who rifled a first time left foot volley into the roof of the net from outside the box. In the second half Freethorpe played some neat football as the game opened up but the visitors always looked dangerous from set plays and in particular from corners. Hurley settled the nerves on the hour tapping in a rebound from a Lawton effort. However, Holt Utd fought back and reduced the arrears direct from a corner with twenty minutes remaining. The lively Hurley was on hand again with a strike which was forced over the line by the hard working Read. The two goal lead seemed to deflate Holt and give Freethorpe the breathing space to play some good football for the remaining 10 minutes of the game. Ward added Freethorpes fourth with just two minutes remaining to secure a 4-1 win. A great first season in the anglian combination. FREETHORPE v HELLESDON RESERVES HOME LEAGUE

With the season drawing to a close everything is still to play for with the outcome of the league in our own hands. Entertaining Hellesdon reserves with almost a full squad to choose from manager Marcus Smith decided to make a couple of changes from the previous weeks good result to rotate the squad and freshen it up a little. Hellesdon Res started very positively and played some good football in the opening period of the game. Freethorpe took longer to get into the game but when they did it was worth waiting for. In five fantastic minutes and with just twelve minutes gone Freethorpe scored three tremendous goals. The first came when Read and Rix combined to set up Ward who accelerated between two hellesdon defenders and rifled his shot into the far corner from an acute angle leaving the keeper with no chance. Barber was next on hand to score a thunderbolt from the edge of the box following a good layoff from Garside. Ward was on target again just minutes later arriving late in the box to meet a corner at the far post and score a very good volley. Freethorpe went 4-0 up on the half hour mark when Read was rewarded for his hard work with an exceptional right foot drive after a well worked wall pass with Rix. Freethorpe started the second half strongly and top scorer Rix scored his 50th goal of the season. A fantastic achievement for Rix who has scored consistently throughout the season backed up superbly by his fellow strike partner Read. Freethorpe eased off the pedal somewhat and Hellesdon deservedly scored two late goals for never giving up on the game and for playing some neat passing football throughout the game. Final score 5-2. FREETHORPE FC v CNSOBU RESERVES AWAY LEAGUE

With the season drawing to a close Freethorpe still have everything to play for. With promotion in our first season secured we will now be concentrating all our efforts into trying to be champions. After no game last weekend Freethorpe travelled to Mousehold to take on CNSOBU Reserves. With the sun in all its glory the pitch was very hard and Freethorpe took some time to get used to the conditions. Passes were going astray slightly and sometimes we were guilty of overplaying. However, we did manage to gain our composure and topscorer Rix carved out two good openings which on any other day he would have scored. The deadlock was eventually broken on 21 minutes when Ward arrived late in the box to head home a Barber cross. The prolific Rix was then on hand to add two further goals. The first after a deft one two with strike partner Read. The second coming after he closed down the keeper for a tap in. CNS had their own chances and the young substitute went close on two occasions. The heat was now playing a part and Freethorpe maintained the tempo and added three more goals before halftime. A neat triangle of passes between Barber, Read and Ward found Forsyth for a goal at the far post. Read was next on hand for a good strike following a terrific crossfield pass from Burns to Forsyth. Rix completed yet another hatrick on the stroke of halftime. The second half saw CNS adjust the shape and positions and all credit to them for stifling Freethorpe. Chances were still created but the CNS keeper made some excellent saves. It was pleasing to see Hurley return to action from the bench following a lengthy injury layoff. Hurley looked lively and helped himself to a goal lobbing the keeper 5 minutes from time. Special mention to Burns who had a very solid game in defence and looked very assured throughout. Final score 7-0. Two games to go to maintian the effort and committment shown throughout the season. Keep up the work lads. Special mention to Freethorpe's travelling supporters which must have exceeded 40 who have supported us home and away all season. A real credit to themselves and our club. FREETHORPE v REEPHAM RESERVES AWAY LEAGUE

After the previous weeks convincing win Freethorpe travelled to Reepham Town Res to play their second of 3 consecutive away games all against top five opponents. The pitch was perfect for football having had a soaking of rain in the morning. The quick surface encouraged good passing football and Freethorpe looked to do this from the off. Reepham were a strong side with good ability throughout the side, particurlarly in the air. The game started frantically with both teams competing for every ball. The Freethorpe defence was in fine form and with the midfield and frontmen working tirelessly Freethorpe created a few chances from which they should have scored. However, the deadlock was not broken until 4 minutes before halftime when Forsyth made good progress down the left flank and his cross-cum-shot looped over the keepers head from an acute angle. At halftime Freethorpe were encouraged to try and get the ball down and play swift passing football on the deck and were rewarded almost immediately after the break when Read let fire with a fantastic strike from outside the box after good work down the right from Ward and Barber. Garside was then on hand to score a double. The first being rifled into the roof of the net from the backpost from a Burns corner. The second a neat run and finish after some more good wingplay down the right. Read still had time to score his second after being given a well earned rest. Rix was rewarded for his efforts when Burns played a clever pass into substitute Lawton whose effort fell to Rix who slotted home. FREETHORPE v HOVERTON WHERRYMAN AWAY LEAGUE

Freethorpe travelled to Hoveton to take on a very competent fourth placed Wherryman side. Freethorpe were kicking with the strong wind behind them on a large pitch and it was Hoveton who started the brighter. The opening exchanges were lively with both teams keen to compete in this top of the table clash. Hoveton struck first after seven minutes when defenders Morris and Maskell attacked the same ball which left the Hoveton striker free to run on and place the loose ball past keeper Pentney. Freethorpes reaction was first class and so was the strike which brought the scores level. Rix pounced on a bouncing ball just inside the Hoveton penalty area and struck a perfect strike with the outside of his right boot curling past the keeper at real pace. Hoveton had their fair share of the play but found the Freethorpe defence in fine form. When they did manage to breach the defence keeper Pentney was having an excellent game making some top class saves throughout the game. The midfield got tight and worked extremely hard to not allow Hoveton time in possession which proved crucial to the outcome of the game. Freethorpe took the lead on 33 minutes when Read with some quick thinking backheeled the ball into the net from close range following a corner. Hoveton were reduced to ten men just before halftime. Freethorpe kept their shape well in the second half and looked in control. Top scorer Rix was back to his best and extended Freethorpes lead on the hour with a good header at the back post from a very good cross from the left from Forsyth. Substitute Lawton came off the bench and for the second week running scored in the dying minutes to put the game beyond all doubt. A Good performance against a very good side. FREETHORPE v HORSFORD RESERVES HOME LEAGUE

Following a blank weekend Freethorpe resumed league action against a resolute Horsford Utd Res. Freethorpe carved out some decent chances in the first half of the game but could not convert them into goals. Ward was seeing plenty of the ball down the right flank and played some teasing balls into the box but a combination of good goalkeeping and a lack of the usual cutting edge meant that the game remained gooalless at halftime. The second half was a similar story with Freethorpe not really firing on all cylinders but still creating some useful chances. Equally the Freethorpe defence were not really troubled except from deadball situations. The deadlock was eventually broken on the hour mark when Read was adjudged to have been fouled in the box. Rix duly dispatched the resulting penalty. However, within two minutes Horsford restored parity from a well taken corner with Freethorpe not sticking with their runners. Substitute Lawton was introduced to the game who freshenend up the attack but the game looked to be heading towards a frustrating draw with missed chances being rued. But with just minutes remaining Freethorpe scored the all important winner when Ward was released down the right and an excellent cross was converted in clinical fashion by Lawton. Freethorpe probably just about did enough to deserve the win but all credit to Horsford for a commendable performance. FREETHORPE v WORTWELL RESERVES AWAY LEAGUE

For the second week running Freethorpe were on the limits of their squad due to injuries, unavailability and suspensions. Freethorpe envisaged a tough game against a much improved Wortwell side and so it proved. Wortwell started the game extremely brightly and competed wholeheartedly in every tackle with their play belying their lowly position in the league. Pentney in the Freethorpe goal was in excellent form making a string of superb saves to keep the game goalless. Freethorpe were rocked back on their heels but as the half progressed they eventually found their feet and with it a bit of rhythm. With ten minutes to the half remaining Rix outfoxed the last defender and when about to unleash a shot on goal was felled in the box. Rix then stepped up to take the spot kick which was well saved by the Wortwell keeper. Just minutes later Read found himself through on goal and was unlucky to get an horrendous bobble just before striking the ball. The second half was a similar affair with both teams competing well and the game evenly balanced. Freethorpe broke the deadlock on 62 minutes when Read was fouled on the edge of the box. Skipper Whitefoot took the kick and drilled it into the top corner beyond the keepers outstretched arm. Wortwell responded and deservedly got on level terms with 15 minutes remaining through a well worked move and strike. The game was flowing from end to end and more goals looked likely but did not materialise. Final score 1-1. A fair result in an entertaining game. If Freethorpe are to maintain their promotion aspirations then big hearts and courage are required from all players. Improvements needed this week. MoM: Daniel Pentney for a top class performance. FREETHORPE V MARTHAM RESERVES HOME LEAGUE

Freethorpe were back in league action after last weeks postponed game due to the bad weather. The weather this week was more like a spring day which made for almost perfect playing conditions against a determined Martham reserves. The game was very even for the opening exchanges with both teams competing well and nullifying any real threats. Freethorpe had made a few changes in personnel and positions and it seemed to take a while to adjust. Freethorpe constantly probed the Martham defence and were eventually rewarded on 25 minutes when Reads accurate diagonal ball was met by Lawton whose shot back across the keeper found the bottom corner of the net. Fellow strike partner Rix doubled Freethorpes lead soon after with a ferocious drilled shot from a cut back from Barber. It was fitting that this goal which was Freethorpes 100th league goal of the campaign so far was scored by the teams top scorer. Freethorpes lead was then extended when Ward made good progress down the right wing and laid the ball off to Barber whose cross was met perfectly by Lawton to head home. The second half saw Freethorpe straight on the attack and skipper Whitefoot scored a superb goal with a screamer from 30 yards into the top right hand corner leaving the keeper with no chance. Barber then got on the scoresheet with a neat header following good work from Rix. Rix got his second and Freethorpes sixth of the game with a great solo effort. Soon after Lawton completed his well earned hat-trick when Morris found Ward with an excellent diagonal pass who played in a hard low cross which Lawton slotted home. Martham did manage a deserved consolation goal when Morris was adjudged to have brought down the Martham striker on the edge of the box. A good strike was blocked by keeper Pentney who could not manage to block the follow up. Rix rounded off the scoring completing his hat-trick with an excellent left foot strike. FREETHORPE V EASTERN RESERVES HOME LEAGUE

Freethorpe entertained a sporting Easton Reserves side. After two difficult games but good results on our travels it was the first of three home games on the trot and Freethorpe got off to a good start when Read had his shot parried by the keeper only for the alert Ward to follow up and put Freethorpe into the lead. Garside added a second soon after when Rix cut in from the right and sent over an excellent cross for Garside to chest down and score with a left footed strike. From then on Freethorpe struggled to get their passing going and seemed to lack the desire of previous weeks. Easton competed well and had their fair share of the play in the first half. At half time the team were encouraged to get the ball down and play short sharp passing and movement in the second half. The team looked more assured being far more effective by taking less touches when in possession. Skipper Whitefoot added Freethorpes third with a great strike from the edge of the box. Read added another when Rix won the ball well and laid off to Read who shot across the Easton keeper. Rix then added two of his own. The first a good solo run and the second from a good cross from Smith down the left flank who had a solid second half performance. Final score 6-0. A poor first half display but much improved in the second period. Work hard and keep it simple and the results will continue.Next Match: Horsford Res at Freethorpe 2pm Kick off.

FREETHORPE V GAYTON RESERVES AWAY LEAGUE

Freethorpe travelled to Gayton Utd Res making 4 changes from the previous week due to injuries and unavailability. It took Freethorpe a while to get into any kind of rhythm and they were finding it difficult to play to their usual standard. The game was a somewhat untidy type of game with both teams unable to string many passes together. Freethorpe looked most likely to score from set plays when Whitefoot swung in two menacing corners in quick succession only to both go across the face of the goal. Barber was unlucky when through on goal an horrendous bobble prevented a strike on goal. Lawton eventually broke the deadlock for Freethorpe on 21 minutes when a wellstruck but harmless looking shot caught the Gayton keeper off guard and beat him at the near post. Freethorpe added a second on the stroke of halftime when Whitefoot netted direct from an inswinging corner. Neither team really got going in the second half and for most of the remainder of the game it was a non event. Freethorpe increased their lead on 70 minutes when Smith rose in the box to score with a well timed header. Unusually Freethorpe seemed to step off the gas and Gayton took full advantage to get back into the game shortly after with a well struck shot from the corner of the box. Then, with just minutes remaining a poor back pass led to Gayton pulling another goal back and making for a frantic finish to the game. With 9 minutes added on time being played Freethorpe were happy to hear the final whistle. An under par performance from Freethorpe which needs to be improved this week. FREETHORPE V LONG STRATTON RESERVES AWAY LEAGUE

Freethorpe FC With players missing Freethorpe travelled to Long Stratton expecting a tough game and so it proved on a small pitch in windy conditions and tricky underfoot. Long Stratton started brightly and put Freethporpe under a bit of pressure straight from the kick off. However, it was Freethorpe who broke away and took the lead when Hurleys shot rebounded to Garside who slotted the ball home. It was then time for two wondergoals to put the game firmly in Freethorpes favour. Firstly, Barber strode forward from defence and drilled a thunderbolt of a shot into the top corner from at least 30 yards leaving the keeper with no chance. Not to be outdone Rix soon followed with a super strike of his own. Picking the ball up on the left flank Rix hit the ball on the volley and lobbed the keeper with a fierce dipping shot. Just two minutes later Read added Freethorpes fourth cooly passing the ball past the keeper after a well worked wall pass with Garside. In the second half with the wind directly against them Freethorpe were content to keep the game tight and compact and try and hit the home team on the break. Although Long Stratton enjoyed quite alot of possession they were unable to worry the Freethorpe goal. Rix put the result beyond all doubt on 65 minutes when Read broke away down the right wing and crossed a perfect ball for Rix to pounce and score his second of the game. Injuries to Hurley and Barber saw the introductions of Mcmartin and Brister who settled into the game quickly. It was a strong performance in difficult conditions with all the team showing great commitment to the cause. Next Game: Gayton Utd away 2pm ko

FREETHORPE v CNSOBU RESERVES LEAGUE HOME

Freethorpe entertained CNSOBU Reserves naming an unchanged side after the excellent performance the previous week. Freethorpe got off to a great start when Skipper Whitefoot rifled in the first goal from 20 yards after good hold-up play from Rix. Then it was the turn of fellow striker Hurley to make his mark on the game scoring four goals in the space of 30 first half minutes. His first came when he broke the offside trap to calmly pass the ball past the advancing keeper. His second followed shortly after with a tap in following a well struck shot from Garside. Hurley completed his hatrick after beating the last defender and slotting the ball past the keeper once again. His fourth and freethorpes fifth was added on the stroke of halftime with an excellent volley from a Barber cross from the right. Although playing well in the second half Freethorpe never lived up to the quality of the first half. CNSOBU worked hard to contain Freethorpe and their keeper made a string of excellent saves to keep the score down. Garside scored midway through the second half with an exquisite first touch to set up his shot from an acute angle. Top scorer Rix rounded off the scoring latching onto a good through ball by Read.
